Why should I buy ZERO?

ZERO is for those who like to drink great tasting water, for those who appreciate simplicity, for those who are tired of carrying home plastic bottles from the supermarket, and for those who want softened tap water without pesticides, heavy metals, traces of contaminants, viruses, and bacteria. Simply for those who want their tap water to be the very best it can be.

What are the advantages of RO (reverse osmosis) water?

The Aquaporin Inside® DWROTM (drinking water reverse osmosis) membrane inside ZERO removes many dissolved solids such as sodium and nitrate in an efficient manner while providing great tasting drinking water. It does so by using nature’s own water channels, aquaporin proteins, and without adding any chemicals to your water. The dissolved solids that are filtered out of your water will be flushed down your drain.

What are the disadvantages of RO water?

The disadvantages of reverse osmosis treatment of drinking water is that it is not possible to only filter out harmful substances. Therefore, both “good” and “bad” substances are removed from your water. One example is lime, which is an important mineral for your daily nutrition but is a disadvantage for your coffee machine, kettle, and other kitchen appliances. It is always recommended to eat a healthy and varied diet to ensure adequate intake of minerals and vitamins.

How fast does ZERO supply purified water?

ZERO allows you to tap 3 liters of purified water in just 1 minute (when the internal tank is completely full) – this is a high performance that is not granted by traditional reverse osmosis systems with pump and direct production. When the internal tank is empty, the production flow rate will drop to approximately 0.5 liters per minute.

Is it healthier to drink water filtered by ZERO than bottled water?

Bottled water comes in many qualities; from spring water which is specific to one source, to purified water which has been treated before bottling, or even just as regular tap water filled onto bottles to be sold. In short, healthiness of water is often a subjective matter. ZERO will ensure that you drink great tasting water free from known and unknown water contaminants directly from your tap.

Doesn’t my municipality already treat and test my water?

Water from the municipal water system is treated and regularly tested for contaminants according to national standards. However, sometimes exceptions are made when pollutants are found. With ZERO you are in control of the quality of your drinking water and can eliminate potential health risks induced by your municipally supplied water.

Will ZERO also remove important minerals from the drinking water?

Minerals from your tap water will be reduced to a large extent with ZERO. This is necessary to ensure that contaminants and impurities are also removed to the largest extent possible. A balanced diet is always recommended as it will ensure an adequate intake of important minerals and vitamins.

Are bacteria, viruses, and pesticides filtered out with ZERO?

Yes, ZERO filters out bacteria, viruses, pesticides, heavy metals, and traces of contaminants.

Can water from ZERO be used for anything other than drinking water?

The water from ZERO can be used for literally anything. For instance, try to use it for making tea and coffee to enhance the flavor experience and expand the lifetime of your kitchen appliances.

Does the ZERO add anything to the water?

No, ZERO is 100% chemical-free and nothing is added to the water when it is filtered with ZERO.

What is the quality of the drinking water coming out of ZERO?

ZERO filters out approximately 95% of all dissolved solids in your tap water. The quality of water varies from location to location, but to mention one example; the TDS (total dissolved solids) of water in the city of Kongens Lyngby just north of Copenhagen, Denmark, is about 600 mg/L. When this water is filtered by ZERO, the TDS of the drinking water becomes approximately 20-50 mg/L.

Does ZERO wastewater when producing purified water?

When water flows into ZERO, two streams of water will come out. One is the filtered, clean drinking water that comes out of your faucet and the other is a stream of water containing all the substances that have been filtered out. The latter stream flows directly down your drain and is often referred to as the reject stream.

Can ZERO work in any kitchen and location?

There are a few operating limitations to consider before installing ZERO. The inlet water pressure influences the performance, and ZERO requires a minimum of 2 bar inlet water pressure at the installation point to function. Also, we do not recommend installing the ZERO if the hardness of you water is >15°dH.

Can ZERO be connected to the existing faucet solution?

It is not recommended to connect ZERO with your regular faucet. If you do this, all your tap water will be purified, and you will experience a low flow of water.

Can I have two faucets connected to a ZERO?

Yes, however, they may not be functional at the same time.

Can ZERO work in any kitchen and location?

What is the hole size of the three-way faucet that comes with ZERO in the introductory offer?

In most cases, the three-way faucet will fit the hole of a standard fitting. The hole size of the three-way faucet is 3.5 cm in diameter.

Can I place ZERO in an upright position?

Yes, ZERO can be placed in a horizontal position and still function properly. The in- and outlets should be facing upwards.

Will I need any accessories or adapters to install the ZERO to the piping under my sink?

ZERO comes with the necessary adapters, fittings, connectors, flexible pipes, and a dedicated gooseneck faucet with an LED indicator. However, you will need a drilling machine with a 6 mm drill for the drain installation and 12 mm drill for the one-way faucet installation.

Does ZERO need electricity?

No. ZERO does not have any electrical components such as a pump or a motor. Electricity is not required, and therefore ZERO will not make any loud noises while operating.

Are there any sounds when ZERO operates?

A properly functioning ZERO will make a very low sound when the tank is filled up and while the wastewater runs down the drain. This noise is purely caused by the water movement.

What is the minimum water pressure required for ZERO to work?

The inlet water pressure influences the performance, and ZERO requires a minimum of 2 bar inlet water pressure at the installation point to function. Note that a low inlet pressure will have a negative effect on the recovery of water, i.e., large volumes of waste.

How can I know what my water pressure is?

To measure the water pressure in your household, you need to add a pressure gauge to your system. If applicable, you can also ask your landlord. Please note that your water pressure depends on many factors and varies from area to area and from time to time.

How can I know the hardness of my water?

The hardness of the water varies from area to area. Usually, your local waterworks will be able to inform you of the hardness in your area. You can also contact your local plumber for a test kit.

Can I take ZERO with me when I move?

Yes, you can take ZERO with you when you move. Just remember to drain the internal tank before moving it. To drain the tank, open the purified water faucet fully and wait for the entire tank (3 liters) to empty out. You will notice the tank is empty when the flowrate of purified water drops to approximately 0.5 liters per minute.

3 Installation / Installation

Can I install ZERO myself?

Yes, you can install ZERO yourself. ZERO comes with a detailed installation guide and you can also watch a video on how to install it. Both can be found via Aquaporin’s website aquaporin.com/zero.

4 Maintenance

How is ZERO maintained? Can you change the filters yourself?

You will only need to replace the filters once a year. ZERO contains four filters in total: 1 pre- filter, 1 post-filter, and 2 Aquaporin Inside® DWROTM filters. The filters have quick connection fittings to ensure easy replacement without the need of tools. The filter change is done easily by yourself.

What is the lifetime of the filters inside ZERO? / When do I know when the filter(s) need changing?

The capacity of the pre- and post-filters is 7000 liters or 12 months, whatever comes first should determine when you replace the filters. It is recommended that all four filters are changed once a year. If you use the one-way faucet that comes with ZERO, there is a light indicator on it. Otherwise, we recommend you note the day of installation and exchange the filters every 12 months.

6 Technical specifications How does ZERO work?



ZERO is a small and compact water purification system with a unique design. Regular tap water flows into ZERO by utilizing the water pressure from your local waterworks. Once it is inside ZERO, the water flows through a pre-filtration cartridge to remove particles and impurities such as chlorine, organic compounds, and heavy metals. Next, the water enters two Aquaporin Inside® DWROTM (drinking water reverse osmosis) membranes which include nature’s own water filters, aquaporin proteins. In this way, up to >99% of all dissolved solids and contaminants are removed from the water before it enters an internal storage tank with a capacity of three liters. Once you open your faucet, the water from the tank flows through a post-filter cartridge as a precautionary step to remove bacterial contamination as well as any bad taste or odor which would accumulate in the tank.

What kind of filters does ZERO include?

There are 4 filters inside ZERO; an activated carbon pre-filter, which the water initially runs through before entering the two Aquaporin Inside® DWROTM (drinking water reverse osmosis) filters. Lastly, the water runs through an activated carbon post-filter, all ensuring you clean water.

What does the pre- and post-filter do?

The pre- and post-filters inside ZERO are silver coated carbon blocks with antimicrobial properties. The pre-filter removes impurities such as chlorine, organic compounds, and heavy metals. Also, it protects the Aquaporin Inside® DWROTM (drinking water reverse osmosis) membrane. The post-filter is considered as a precautionary step to remove bacterial contamination as well as any bad taste or odor which would accumulate in the tank.

What does the RO (reverse osmosis) filter do?

The Aquaporin Inside® DWROTM (drinking water reverse osmosis) filter inside ZERO filters out 90-99% of all dissolved solids and contaminants in your tap water.

What does ZERO remove from the tap water?

The combination of the pre- and post-filters as well as the Aquaporin Inside® DWROTM (drinking water reverse osmosis) filters gives you full protection. Does ZERO also remove lime from the water?

Yes, ZERO removes lime from the water so you get soft drinking water.

What is the difference between Aquaporin’s RO (reverse osmosis) filter and conventional RO filters?

The Aquaporin Inside® DWROTM (drinking water reverse osmosis) membrane is the only membrane that uses nature’s own water channels to deliver drinking water.

How much water does ZERO waste?

The recovery rate (i.e., the percentage of the total amount of water entering ZERO utilized for drinking water) depends on several factors, including the salinity or TDS (total dissolved solids) level of the incoming water as well as the pressure and temperature. ZERO recovers 40% of the incoming water (i.e., wastes 60%) when treating water with a TDS level of approximately 200 ppm at 15°C and 2.5 bar of pressure.

What is the maximum water hardness that can be treated by ZERO?

ZERO is designed to treat municipal drinking water. Please be aware that if the hardness of your water source is more than 15°dH, the lifetime of the machine will decrease. You can overcome this to some degree by replacing the pre-filters and Aquaporin Inside® DWROTM (drinking water reverse osmosis) membranes more frequently, however, hard water can lead to clogging of the machine over time.

What is the maximum chlorine level in the water that can be treated by ZERO?

ZERO is designed to treat municipal drinking water. Please be aware that if the chlorine level of your water source is more than 0.2 ppm, the lifetime of the filters inside ZERO will decrease. You can overcome this to some degree by replacing the pre-filters and Aquaporin Inside® DWROTM (drinking water reverse osmosis) membranes more frequently.
