Step 1 is to filter all the water as it comes into your RV. This step is the backbone of your filter system and, if done right, will remove the bulk of the sediment, chemicals and pathogens, improve the taste of the water and protect both you and your RV. I prefer to accomplish this using filters, which don’t use power or waste water. We also carry UV lights for pathogen sterilization, and Reverse Osmosis for the ultimate in pure water if you prefer,
but my recommendations for most of you will be to use filters and water softeners. Our Essential system is our best selling system for cleaning water before it gets into your RV. It is a compact and powerful system that can be connected using your RV water hose, the same as one of these blue filters. These are great for improving the taste and removing chemicals and they usually have KDF, which reduces
lead and heavy metals. The downside of these inline filters is that they let sediment under 100 microns through. In comparison, a human hair is about 75 microns on the average. It will also let all pathogens through.
So if you are ok with bugs and hair in your water, this will be fine. But if not....
The Essential system removes sediment down to 0.5 microns, which is 150 times smaller than a human hair, chlorine, VOC’s, pesticides and improves taste and odor. It also removes the most common pathogens,
cysts (giardia and cryptosporidium). It comes with either hose fittings for outside use or with ½” pipe fittings if you want to mount it inside in your wet bay or storage area. The ½” fittings will
be easy to either replace a single canister you already have, or to add into your existing plumbing.
Once you have protected yourself and your RV from sediment, chemicals and pathogens, it’s time to consider Step 2 – water softening.
