Pressure Regulators |
Excessive pressure can cause your plumbing to leak or even
rupture. It doesn't take long at high pressures to cause
damage, even a fairly brief "spike" can do it. Pressure regulators are
installed in your water
supply line to limit the water pressure going into your RV.
RV plumbing is normally rated at 125 psi, but you certainly don't
need to use that much. However, 60-65 psi is a very comfortable
pressure for faucets and showers. Parks don't always have
that much, but when they do, having a regulator designed for good
flow and pressure adjustability will allow you to take advantage
of that better pressure without creating a problem with standard
RV plumbing systems. Many higher end RV pumps that come on
RVs have 65 to as much as 85 psi. New RVs often have their plumbing systems tested to 100 psi,
or so, during the manufacturing process, but we recommend
regulating incoming pressure to around 60-65 psi to provide a very
nice operating system. OUR REGULATORS ALL COME EQUIPPED
WITH BRASS HOSE FITTINGS, READY TO HOOK UP. More detailed information on
regulators. |

What's The Difference From One Product to Another?
Assuming they all work as designed, why choose one over another?
The answer comes down to flow. The bigger the regulator, the
more water it
will pass. Below, we include flow measurements we made on each
regulator. The low figure was when the regulator was set for 40
psi, and the higher figure was when set for 60 psi.
Our Line of Pressure Regulators
We sell a complete line of regulators, all ready to install it in your
system. Just take it out of the box and hook it up!

The lowest rung on the regulator ladder is occupied by small,
in-line regulators.
The brass unit is one typically included with your RV and sold in
many RV supply houses. It has tiny orifices that the water must
pass through and seriously restricts the overall water flow to
your coach. This unit comes with a preset maximum
pressure of 45 psi that cannot be changed.

The next step up is a slightly larger regulator made by Watts,
a well-known supplier of industrial pressure regulators. This
brass model, the H560, can be adjusted to change the pressure
limit, and is available with an optional pressure gauge to enable
you to monitor the regulated supply pressure. It is compact and
offers good flow at higher park pressure and less flow at low park
pressures. We got flows of 2 to 2.5 gpm with this regulator.

Similar to the H560, but an improved model is the Watts IR56.
This unit has a little better flow than the H560, and it gave us
3 to 3.5 gpm in our test. It also seems to be more immune to
clogging than the H560, so over time, it will require a little
less maintenance. THIS REGULATOR IS NOW DISCONTINUED BY
WATTS, BUT THE REBUILD KIT AND GAUGE IS STILL AVAILABLE.
An industrial regulator with larger orifices for better flow is the Watts
Model 263A. This brass unit also offers an adjustable pressure
limit and is available with a pressure gauge. Because of its size
and lighter weight, it is our most popular model and it produced a
flow of 4 to 4.5 gpm in out test.

The top-of-the-line regulator is another Watts
unit, Model N55B. It provides the best flow rate of all and is
well-built of brass. In our tests it produced a flow rate of 6 to
9 gpm. A home style regulator suitable for mobile
homes, cabins and RVs, it is larger and heavier than the other
models, but the most durable of all.
All of these Watts regulators can be disassembled for cleaning
and rebuild kits are available to keep them operating for many
years.
