Excessive pressure can cause your plumbing to leak or even
rupture. It doesn't take long at high pressures to cause
damage - even a fairly brief "spike" can do it. Pressure regulators are
installed in your water
supply line to limit the water pressure going into your RV. Most plumbing fixtures are designed to work
from 40 to 60 pounds per square
inch (psi). New RVs have their plumbing systems tested to 100 psi during the
manufacturing process, but the manufacturers recommend regulating
incoming pressure to no more than 65 psi. More detailed information on regulators.
What's The Difference From One Product to Another? Our Line of Pressure Regulators The lowest rung on the regulator ladder is occupied by small, in-line regulators. The brass unit is one typically included with your RV and sold in many RV supply houses. It has tiny orifices that the water must pass through and seriously restricts the overall water flow to your coach. This unit comes with a preset maximum pressure of 45 psi that cannot be changed.
The next step up is a slightly larger regulator made by Watts, a well-known supplier of industrial pressure regulators. This brass model, the H560, can be adjusted to change the pressure limit, and is available with an optional pressure gauge to enable you to monitor the regulated supply pressure. It is compact and offers good flow at higher park pressure and less flow at low park pressures. We got flows of 2 to 2.5 gpm with this regulator.
Similar to the H560, but an improved model is the Watts IR56. This unit has a little better flow than the H560, and it gave us 3 to 3.5 gpm in our test. It also seems to be more immune to clogging than the H560, so over time, it will require a little less maintenance.
The top-of-the-line regulator is another Watts unit, Model N55B. It provides the best flow rate of all and is well-built of brass. In our tests it produced a flow rate of 6 to 9 gpm. A home style regulator suitable for mobile homes, cabins and RVs, it is larger and heavier than the other models, but the most durable of all. All of these Watts regulators can be disassembled for cleaning and rebuild kits are available to keep them operating for many years. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
